Andrea is an adult female green turtle released with a satellite transmitter on the 24th of June 2026 from Lara Bay. Her shell measured 90 cm curved carapace length and 86.5 cm curved carapace width. She had previously been encountered nesting in 2018.
Her name was chosen to honour the memory and legacy of Andreas Demetropoulos, pioneer of marine turtle conservation in the Mediterranean. He established the Cyprus Turtle Conservation Project in 1978, dedicating his life to the protection of marine turtles and their habitats. His vision, dedication, and mentorship laid the foundations for decades of conservation, monitoring and research in Cyprus and beyond.
